Winter days out on the Park

Winter days out on the Park

Story 18/12/2019

The Park is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and there’s plenty to do all year round – even when the weather leaves a lot to be desired… Take a look at some of our favourite ways to enjoy winter on the Park.

Escape the city (without leaving London)

While the Park is in well-connected Zone 2, once you start to wander through the meadows and canal paths in the north of the Park it’s easy to feel like you’re in the middle of the countryside! Kids can enjoy the rustic Tumbling Bay playground, with swings, slides and climbing frames, while grown-ups looking for a little more quiet time can wrap up warm and set out for a stroll through the peaceful parklands. The Park is fully accessible too, and a Park mobility service is available most days.

Discover the winter wildlife

Spring might be the time when nature seems in full bloom, but don’t discount the winter months as a good time to go on a wildlife walk around the Park. The river and wetlands are an important habitat for birds during the winter, including kingfishers, grey herons and goldcrests. Take a look at our guide to winter wildlife on the Park – the little ones will love spotting the different species of birds and insects.

Cheer on your favourite teams

The Park’s iconic venues host world-class events all year round, offering the perfect all-weather entertainment. Look out for hockey, British basketball, international netball and a Call of Duty esports event all taking place on the Park over the coming months, and browse our events listings to see even more exciting events coming up in the spring.

Soak up skyline views (and set yourself a challenge)

It might be a little bit chilly, but when winter comes through with those crisp, sunny days there’s nothing quite like it! Make the most of it with a visit to the ArcelorMittal Orbit, and gaze out over skyline views of London from the indoor and outdoor viewing platforms – at 80m high, they give you panoramic views of up to 20 miles! To top off the trip with an experience to remember, make sure you brave a ride on The Slide on your way down. Whizzing down the world’s longest and tallest tunnel slide will get the adrenaline pumping and set you up for a memorable year!

Don't miss the January sale at the ArcelorMittal Orbit! Book in January for sessions up until 14 February and save 50% on tickets for the viewing platform and The Slide.

Enjoy great food and drink

Whether you’re grabbing a hot chocolate to warm up on the go or settling in for food and a catch up, there are plenty of places to choose from in and around the Park. Canalside by Here East in the north of the Park has you covered from brunch until dinner, including plant-based restaurant Mother (perfect if you’re trying veganuary). Over in East Village you’ll find restaurants, cafes and bars to suit every occasion, from family dinners to nights out with friends, and don’t forget The Last Drop and Timber Lodge Café on the Park itself for drinks and light bites during your days out on the Park.
