Story 08/02/2022

This year marks a significant milestone for London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) and all associated with Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

It is ten years since this part of east London played host to the greatest show on earth – what a truly remarkable couple of months we enjoyed when the Olympic and Paralympic Games rolled into town.

So many of you made that summer one to remember and now we are asking you once again to get involved and be part of the 10 year anniversary celebrations.

Earlier this year, Our Parklife was granted funding for an Oral History project by LLDC via our Neighbourhood Priorities Fund.

Our Parklife has been connecting local people to the Park through volunteering, training and employment opportunities since 2014 and is passionate about the impact it has on the local communities.

Our Parklife is proud to be delivering an Oral History project and help inform the ’10 years on’ story.

The aim of this project is to capture the fascinating memories and experiences of the people that worked, volunteered or lived around the Stratford area and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park Pre-Games, as it developed and since.

This project was inspired by the Park Champion Volunteers, who have heard countless anecdotes from Park visitors while volunteering on the Park but also have their own fascinating stories to share.

They are at the heart of this piece of work, from the initial idea to now being trained as interviewers, they will be the face of the project.

The recordings will form an archive with a rich variety of stories, captured for prosperity, and will respond to the need for the local community to better understand the area they live in.

Our Parklife sees this archive being of benefit to historians, schools and students as well as local residents, local businesses and workers.

For more information and to register your interest in being interviewed, please complete this form and we will be in touch shortly.
