Status of tender: closed

London's most iconic leasing opportunity

The London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) is seeking to appoint an operator for the ArcelorMittal Orbit on a 10-year lease. This is first time the opportunity has become available for tender since before the 2012 Games.

The structure, designed by world renowned artist Sir Anish Kapoor, now includes the world longest tunnel slide (178m) designed by artist Carsten Holler, creating an exciting foundation to attract adventure-seekers well into the future.

Standing as the United Kingdom's tallest sculpture, this iconic monument is a testament to the Olympic and Paralympic legacy that has transformed east London. Serving as a mesmerising landmark, the ArcelorMittal Orbit captivates and enchants visitors with it's unparalleled panoramic views spanning 20 miles, showcasing Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and the iconic London skyline. Accessible every day of the week, the Park is free to visit and hosts internationally renowned sporting venues, alongside a myriad of major events, expansive parklands, vibrant playgrounds, residential areas, and vital community facilities, all while boasting some of the most efficient transport links in the city.

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, this site enjoys a prime location adjacent to the bustling London Stadium. Renowned for drawing substantial foot traffic the stadium accommodates up to 80,000 enthusiastic attendees for live entertainment events and thrilling football matches.

The ArcelorMittal Orbit acts as a beacon for Stratford and the Park, located opposite the East Bank, London’s new cultural powerhouse that will see footfall and tourism significantly increase in forthcoming year/s including:

  • Sadler’s Wells East's new 550-seat theatre;
  • UAL’s London College of Fashion state of the art campus accommodating 6,500 students;
  • the opening of the highly anticipated V&A East Museum;
  • BBC East, the new home for the BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Chorus, BBC singers with recording facilities and access to the public for performances; and
  • UCL East, a new campus accommodating 4,000 students.

Furthermore, the site's proximity to Westfield Stratford City shopping centre offers a prime opportunity for increased exposure, benefiting from foot traffic stemming from over 50 million annual visitors.

The ArcelorMittal Orbit currently operates as a visitor attraction with views, slide, abseil and stair climb opportunities alongside unique hospitality and events spaces. Historically throughput has been between 150,000-200,000 visits each year. There is significant scope to further develop attractions and revenue streams and the tender invites bidders to propose innovations and new concepts to delivery growth and footfall.
