LONDON LIVING WAGE

LONDON LIVING WAGE

Press Release 06/11/2013

London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) has become one of the first organisations in the region to become an accredited London Living Wage employer.

The LLDC has made a commitment that all its direct employers, including interns and contractors, are paid the London Living Wage. This means that every member of staff in the organisation earns not just the minimum wage, but a living wage.

It is now a contractual requirement of all the LLDC’s Tier 1 construction and end-use contractors to pay the London Living Wage to their directly employed staff.

The London Living Wage follows the Mayor of London’s publication A Fairer London: The 2012 Living Wage in London, which sets out the aspiration that the Greater London Authority Group include the London Living Wage as a requirement for all contracts.

The London Living Wage is an hourly rate that is set and updated annually. It is calculated according to the basic cost of living in the UK and employers choose to pay it on a voluntary basis. Payment of the London Living Wage is important because it makes a vital material contribution to low income families and makes business sense by appropriately recognising and rewarding skills and commitment in the workforce.

You can find out more about it on the Living Wage Foundation website at www.livingwage.org.uk
