At each live festival weekend of The Music is Black Festival, join in with The Dance Floor is Black at Sadler's Wells East. Each session is free and curated by a different choreographer and gives you the an opportunity to get up and dance to all your favourite tunes. With Family Dance sessions on Saturday and Sunday afternoons and a curated Club Night from 7pm on Saturday.

Saturday 11 July 

Family Dance, 12-1.30pm, BORN N BREAD presents Toasty Tots.

Hackney Showroom & Museum of Youth Culture present: Female Pioneers of Reggae, 3-3.30pm

Hackney Showroom bring their heritage project to The Dance Floor is Black for a Q&A with women who pioneered the UK roots, dancehall and lovers rock scenes of the 80s & 90s, curated by the award-winning reggae artist Lorna Gee AKA Sutara Gayle.

Hosted by broadcaster DJ Elayne and featuring Lovers Rock icon Carroll Thompson, award-winning make-up artist Allison Edwards, Lorna Gee's label mate roots artist Sister Audrey and dancehall vocalist & Brixton legend Olive Brooklyn, uncover the hidden stories of the women that have shaped British reggae culture.

Club Night, 7pm-late, Let Love Be Your Rock with Jade Hackett - Jade Hackett showcases original group work set to Lovers Rock and Reggae music.

Sunday 12 July

Sunday Session, 12-6pm, L’attise Rhoden & Glade Marie - Come together for a relaxed dance session celebrating Black British music with DJs L’attise Rhoden and Glade Marie on the decks.

Club Night, 7pm-late, Together We Felt The Bass with Zinzi Minott -  Close out your night with an evening of music, dance, poetry and sound art inspired by Queer nightlife. Curated by Zinzi Minott, the first artist trained in dance to be artist in residence at both Serpentine Galley and TATE.

Sunday 23 August

Sunday sessions, 12-6pm, with Fagamuffin Bloc Party - Join queer carnival collective for a full-day pre-carnival party with DJs, MCs and dancers.

Family Dance, 12-3pm, with Fly Kid - Fly Kid are set to bring a daytime party where you can introduce the kids to the tunes you grew up on. 

Club Night, 7pm-late, Soul System: Afrofuture Funk with Dannielle "Rhimes" Lecointe - Close out the night with DJ sets and live performances, curated by Dannielle "Rhimes" Lecointe, the Associate Artistic Director of ZooNation and choreographer of last year’s hit Christmas show at Sadler’s Wells East, Ebony Scrooge.

Sunday sessions, 12-6pm, with Poetic Funk Collective - Closing out Black to the Future is Poetic Funk, a DJ collective led by Mark Alexander. This relaxed set will draw on their passion for afrofuturism and 80s funk.
