The Music is Black Festival live weekends kick off with The Music is Ours, a Block Party celebrating London's soundsystem legacy in the birthplace of Grime. With the Saturday 13 June curated by Grime legend Footsie and Sunday 14 June by double MOBO award winning artist YolanDa Brown, The Music is Ours will feature a line-up full of east London and the UK's finest artists and MCs.

East London grime pioneer Footsie, best known for his work in Newham Generals alongside D Double E and for carrying on his father Farda Waz’s iconic King Original soundsystem, is a true legend of the scene.
For The Music is Ours, Footsie takes full control of the Saturday's programming, curating a stacked lineup of DJs, MCs and rappers spanning grime, ska, alternative R&B, reggae and beyond.

Sunday is curated by YolanDa Brown OBE DL, a double MOBO Award winner, who blends reggae, jazz and soul in her music and has toured with The Temptations, Jools Holland and Billy Ocean.
As curator for Waterfront Stage, YolanDa will be bringing a deep commitment to intergenerational soul with both legacy and emerging voices.
The Mid Terrace stage is curated by My Runway Group, the discipline-blending collective known for transforming traditional spaces into dynamic hubs for contemporary African and diasporic creativity.

At Sadler's Wells East
Across the weekend, Sadler's Wells East will also be open for The Dance Floor is Black, an opportunity to get up and dance to all your favourite tunes. Led by different choreographers, you can get involved in Family Dance sessions on both Saturday and Sunday afternoons and then a curated Club Night from 7pm on Saturday.

Family Dance, 12-3pm, with Fly Kid - Fly Kid are set to bring a daytime party where you can introduce the kids to the tunes you grew up on.
Club Night, 7pm-late, Garage X Grime Reload with Kloé Dean - Close out the night with DJ sets and live performances, curated by Kloé Dean, a renowned dancer and choreographer who has worked extensively with Little Simz, Ezra Collective and Cleo Sol.

Sunday sessions, 12-6pm, with Breakin' Convention - Breakin’ Convention take over The Dance Floor with exhibition battles and DJs in the world of Soundsystem and Grime.
BASSTONE PLAYGROUND
Primary school-aged children from Culture Within Newham's Children's Board have commissioned renowned artist and DJ Linett Kamala to design an immersive play installation for the weekend. The space will mix play and calm, with hidden speakers playing dub, lo-fi and chilled music throughout. It also features an interactive LED and sound sculpture, BASSTONE MAYPOLE, first shown at the Light Up Kilburn Festival in 2026. the world’s first LED and sound maypole which premiered at the Light Up Kilburn Festival in February 2026.
