Transforming the Beautiful Game: The Clyde Best Story
25/03/2026 - 28/03/2026
From 25-28 March, you're invited to experience the world premiere of new documentary, Transforming the Beautiful Game: The Clyde Best Story at Sadler’s Wells East.
Discover a legend's story
Clyde Best arrived in London from Bermuda as a teenager and grew into the first Black football superstar in the modern TV era in England and went on to become a legend of the North American Soccer League (NASL).
At 17, Clyde Best debuted alongside Sir Geoff Hurst for West Ham United. Despite constant racism, he rose to stardom—playing 218 first-team games and scoring 58 goals over his career. His story is woven into some of football’s most significant moments, including West Ham United’s ground-breaking 1972 match featuring three Black players on the pitch for the first time.
His untold story is featured in the new upcoming documentary Transforming the Beautiful Game, a powerful testament to resilience, quiet revolution, and a legacy that reshaped the future of the global game.
Following the screening, audiences are invited to stay for a live Q&A hosted by the film’s narrator and actor Tony D. Head. The discussion will feature Clyde Best, Ade Coker, and other key contributors from the film.
