10/06/2026 7.30pm
Visit Sadler's Wells East on 10 June for this panel discussion which brings together leading directors, producers and musicians to consider the impact of Black British music in their film and television work. This event is produced by UCL East and part of The Music is Black Festival by East Bank at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
Soundtracks of Blackness
Black British film and television has played a significant role in the popularising of Black British music forms, through the creation of iconic soundtracks, scores, or/and the casting of noted Black musicians in their productions.
The panel will be made up of leading voices in this space including: Courttia Newland, a screenwriter and author; Dennis Bovell MBE, a pioneering Barbados-born, key figure in British reggae; Ed Bailie, a music supervisor on a host of well know film and television productions such as Top Boy; and Dionne Edwards, a screenwriter and director.
The panel will be chaired by Dr Clive Chijioke Nwonka, UCL's Associate Professor in Film, Culture and Society.
