The Park recognised by the Green Flag Awards as one of the best green spaces in the world

Story 16/07/2019

For the sixth year running, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is proud to have been recognised by the prestigious Green Flag Award Scheme as one of the best parks in the world. To receive the international award, parks or green spaces must show the highest possible environmental standards, be beautifully maintained and boast excellent visitor facilities – so it's a real achievement!

To ensure that the Park retains its Green Flag Award status, a dedicated team of gardeners, designers and volunteers work throughout the year to maintain the beautiful surroundings that are enjoyed by both locals and tourists. Over 30.7 million visitors have already enjoyed the team’s hard work across the 560 acres of stunning parklands that are home to beautifully landscaped gardens, historic waterways, famous sporting venues – including the iconic London Aquatics Centre and London Stadium – a vibrant arts and events programme and the ArcelorMittal Orbit complete with its spiralling slide.

Free to enter, there are hundreds of different days out to enjoy the Park!  There are secluded gardens, beautiful landscaping and memories of London 2012 to discover, unique adventure play areas to enjoy and the hugely popular interactive fountains – 195 jets of water putting on a show and keeping children (and big kids too) cool in the summer. Visitors can get active in the Park or its sports venues, enjoy a drink or bite to eat in one of the many cafes or restaurants and enjoy a relaxing boat tour on the river.

With all this and more on offer, it’s not hard to see why the Park is among a record-breaking 1,970 parks and green spaces in the UK, and 131 in thirteen countries around the world, to have received a Green Flag Award – the mark of a quality park or green space.
