Look What I Found with Alia Ali
22/12/2025
Join V&A East Storehouse on 22 November for a special event with Alia Ali, a Yemeni-Bosnian-American multi-media artist and current Jameel Fellow at the V&A. Working across photography, sculpture, video, installation, and language, Ali’s work explores cultural binaries and challenges ideas around gender, politics, media, and identity.
Nostalgic pasts and dystopian presents
Textiles are central to Ali's practice, symbolising both unity and division in human experience. Through immersive installations of light and pattern, she creates sensory encounters that transcend language, inviting deeper reflection on self, culture, and nationhood.
At the V&A East Storehouse, Ali is researching Yemeni Futurism, using oral histories and overlooked artefacts to confront themes of appropriation, violence, and neglect. Her work reimagines nostalgic pasts and dystopian presents to envision radical new futures.
Ali’s work has been exhibited globally, including at the 18th International Triennial of Textile in Łódź, the Lagos Photo Biennial, and Paris Photo 2025. Her pieces are held in major institutions such as The British Museum and Princeton University. She is also a NIKON Global Ambassador.
Part of the Look What I Found series, this event invites audiences to discover how artists engage with the V&A’s collections in unexpected, powerful ways.
