The Marshgate Lane Connectivity project will improve connectivity and public realm between Pudding Mill Lane DLR station and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, including improving accessibility and perception of safety.
Vision

Vision
The Marshgate Lane Greenway Connectivity project is located in the area to the south of the London Stadium at the edge of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park (QEOP). This area is undergoing significant change, with many people already using local routes to travel to school, events, and homes in the area, and many more to come as development sites at Pudding Mill Lane and surrounding areas come forward for development. The project area has also been highlighted in the recent Safer Places Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park Area survey as being an area of particular concern in relation to safety for women, girls, and gender diverse people.
The Marshgate Lane Connectivity project focuses on improving connectivity and public realm, by enhancing the pedestrian and cycle routes between Pudding Mill Lane DLR station and QEOP as well as public spaces in this area. The project seeks to improve the infrastructure that helps people to overcome the severance caused by the Greenway and the railway viaduct, and to enhance safety and perception of safety in the area for all users, particularly at the underpass beneath the railway.
Proposals

Proposals
Proposals include:
- Improved ramp and stair access to the Greenway from Marshgate Lane towards the View Tube and Bobby Moore Academy Secondary school.
- An upgraded crossing over Marshgate Lane, corresponding with the bottom of the improved ramp, with the existing zebra crossing to become a parallel crossing for both pedestrians and cyclists
- New parallel crossing proposed across Marshgate Lane south of the railway viaduct to connect from Pudding Mill Lane DLR forecourt to the existing Greenway ramp in that location
- Improved lighting is proposed for the pedestrian and road underpasses below the railway viaduct and options for additional CCTV are being considered
- An art/wayfinding proposal is being developed with the community that would focus on the pedestrian underpass, helping create a sense of place, direct users and improve perceptions of safety

The voice of local people is crucial to help shape these ideas, we want to hear from people who know the area best, including residents and regular visitors; feedback will genuinely help shape what elements are taken forward towards delivery.

Latest Project Progress
As part of the development of art/wayfindng across the project site, leading public art commissioning organisation, UP Projects are working with LLDC to deliver a series of new artist-led wayfinding commissions. The project is being informed by a process of co-creation that will include an artist working with a select group of women, girls and gender diverse individuals who live, work and/or regularly use the Marshgate Lane area between Pudding Mill Lane DLR station and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The group of eight 'Community Collaborators' has been selected based on their response to an Open Call and are paid for their time contributing to a series of ten workshops across winter 2024.
The project also benefits from regular input from stakeholders including Thames Water, Network Rail, London Stadium, Abba Voyage, Poplar HARCA (leaseholder of the View Tube) and many more. The group meets quarterly to review project progress, discuss opportunities and coordinate activities in the area.
