SIR PETER HENDY CBE ANNOUNCES LYN GARNER TO LEAD LONDON LEGACY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION

SIR PETER HENDY CBE ANNOUNCES LYN GARNER TO LEAD LONDON LEGACY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION

Press Release 15/12/2017

The Chair of the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC), Sir Peter Hendy CBE, today announced that Lyn Garner has been appointed as the organisation’s new Chief Executive.

Lyn joins from Haringey Council where she has been Strategic Director of Regeneration, Planning and Development since July 2011. Her responsibilities cover capital projects including the ambitious Tottenham and Wood Green Regeneration Programmes, and the Haringey Development Vehicle.  Prior to joining Haringey Lyn’s career has spanned finance, housing and regeneration with senior leadership roles at Hammersmith & Fulham and a year on secondment at the GLA as Executive Director for Development & Environment with responsibilities including transport, environment and sustainability. In March 2016, Lyn was elected Chair of Future of London, the independent policy network connecting the Capital’s regeneration, housing, infrastructure and economic development professionals.

Sir Peter Hendy said: “I am delighted to welcome Lyn as our new Chief Executive. She has an outstanding track record. I am looking forward to working with her in the years ahead as we take Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to new heights and continue to deliver results in what we are proud to call the most successful urban regeneration programme in Europe. Lyn was appointed following a highly competitive recruitment exercise that demonstrated this project continues to attract the very best candidates in their field. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank David Goldstone for his leadership and hard work and wish him well in his new role.”

Jules Pipe, Deputy Mayor for Planning, Regeneration and Skills, said: "I congratulate Lyn on her appointment and we will be working closely with her and the LLDC board to continue driving forward regeneration in this area of east London. The Mayor wants Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to become one of the largest and most exciting cultural and educational destinations in Europe and we look forward to working with Lyn to achieve this.”

Lyn Garner said: “This is a hugely exciting time to join the Legacy Corporation and lead it on the next stage of its journey. Huge strides have been made to create a new visitor destination, deliver homes and create jobs. But there are still many challenging issues to tackle to ensure we maximise the opportunities created from the 2012 Games. The organisation is well placed to deliver and I am keen to get started.”

Lyn will take up the post in early 2018. She replaces David Goldstone CBE who left in November 2017 to take up the post of Chief Operating Officer at the Ministry of Defence.
