Paralympic heroes Jody Cundy and Danny Crates joined more than 100 people at a cycling taster session on Saturday 6 April.

The athletes took part in a London Legacy Development Corporation All Ride session trying out a range of bicycles designed for disabled people including hand cycles, recumbents and tricycles.

London 2012 bronze medallist Jody Cundy said:

“Following the amazing success of the 2012 Paralympics it is great to see opportunities for disabled people living in east London to take up disability sport. I really enjoyed coming along to share my experience of competing in the Games and hopefully inspire a future Paralympian to try disability sport.”

Dennis Hone, Chief Executive, London Legacy Development Corporation, said:

“All Ride is a great example of the Legacy promise being delivered by providing tangible opportunities for everyone to try some inclusive cycling and perhaps inspire a generation of new Paralympians. The Legacy Corporation is on track to deliver a top visitor destination and a great legacy for east London.”

Tower Hamlets’ resident Barbara Albert took part in the event, she said:

‘It was a fantastic day, very friendly and everyone was involved, there was no discrimination. Everyone enjoyed the photos with Jody Cundy. It was a really good day and promoted other healthy issues too.”

Allride is funded by the London Legacy Development Corporation as part of its promise to deliver a paralympic sporting legacy for east London. All Ride is a partnership project with Bikeworks, a local Social Enterprise that enables people of all abilities to cycle. All Ride is an inclusive project for disabled young people working with local schools and holding cycling sessions for young people aged 11 plus. The scheme aims to reach 700 disabled people before March 2015 and encourage them to try out cycling.

The Legacy Corporation will shortly be launching a website called Motivate East which will provide local people with detail of events and opportunities to get involved in similar projects, people can register for updates here:
