The London Legacy Development Corporation has awarded £885,000 to 14 local community projects funding from this year’s Neighbourhood Priorities Fund.
The 14 successful projects offer wide ranging community services including the E20 Football Foundation Football Academy which provides free football sessions and professional coaching to local residents; the Palace Club which provides a social network for Hackney Wick Residents who are 65 years plus; and Ride Side by Side which gives older residents lifts on electric bicycles.
Lyn Garner, CEO of the London Legacy Development Corporation, said:
“The breadth of applications and the benefits that they bring to local people is genuinely inspiring. We know that the Fund can make a huge difference and it’s great to see significant investment being made into local community groups."
Last year, nine local community projects received more than £470,000 from the Fund.
The Neighbourhood Priorities Fund was set up to administer the Neighbourhood Portion of the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL). The LLDC CIL Charging Schedule was brought in to effect in April 2015. CIL is a charge on developments to support delivery of infrastructure in the local area. Government guidance sets out that in an area with no parish councils, a Local Planning Authority that charges CIL should allocate 15% of annual CIL receipts to be spent on projects in consultation with local communities.
The Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) allows LLDC to raise funds from a charge on new floorspace that is built in our area. CIL contributions can be spent on infrastructure that will help support growth in the area. This means LLDC can support infrastructure projects that improve our area for current residents and businesses as well as those moving to the area and making Stratford their home.
