Legacy Youth Voice

East London has a thriving, diverse and young population. Young people played a vital role in staging the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and we want to ensure that they keep having a say in the future of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and the surrounding area.

The Legacy Youth Voice (formerly the Legacy Youth Panel) is a young diverse group, bursting with ideas and insights, helping to shape the future of the Park and creating opportunities for young east Londoners. Formed four years prior to the London 2012 Games, the project harnesses young people's interest and enthusiasm, and enables them to make a valuable contribution to the regeneration of east London.

We’re currently recruiting the 2021 cohort of young people - if you are interested in applying to be part of the Legacy Youth Voice go to Legacy Youth Voice - 2021 Application | Kaizen Partnership

Every year since 2008, we recruit 30 new members aged between 14 and 18 from Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest. We now have almost 200 members.

The Legacy Youth Voice is Representing, Engaging and Inspiring young east Londoners, providing them with the opportunity to be a youth voice into and out of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

The Legacy Youth Voice has already had a significant impact on the development of the Park and the surrounding area, including the innovative designs of the Timber Lodge and The Podium. They have recently elected 10 panel members to form a Youth Board to provide a link between the Youth Voice and the Legacy Corporation, sharing information and giving feedback to help inform key priority areas.

The aim of the Legacy Youth Voice is to:

  • Influence and shape the Park
  • Review and input into design plans and strategy documents
  • Be the voice out to young people about what is happening in the Park
  • Help to develop opportunities for young people to get involved in the Park
  •  Provide development and personal growth opportunities for young people involved in the group

Members of the Legacy Youth Voice gain valuable practical skills and experience in a range of areas, including: group and team work; communication and presenting; event planning; and urban design and planning. Many of our members have developed strong CVs and found part-time work as a result of the programme, whilst others have gone on to study at university. Some have gone on to work or volunteer at the Park.
