East Education, in collaboration with our world-leading East Bank partners; BBC, UCL, UAL's London College of Fashion, V&A and Sadler's Wells, is offering local 15 – 18 year olds an exciting online FREE programme as part of National Careers Week! We'll also have collaborations from other incredible local partners including Here East, LMA, Staffordshire University, Art Clubbers and more!

The online sessions include chatting with broadcasters from the BBC, getting insider information on how to perfect your portfolio and learning all about the different jobs involved in engineering. We also have courses for those of you that are keeping your options open. You can find a full list of sessions available below.

    Discover the many and varied careers that make a radio show happen. In this webinar, the BBC Introducing team (Presenter Jess Iszatt and Team Assistants Hana Staddon and Katy Hills) will be telling you all about how to make a live radio show happen, and the skills you need to get there. They’ll also talk about why they love their jobs and how they got into broadcasting - we can’t wait to hear their words of wisdom!

    Learn about the wide range of career opportunities for women in the construction sector. Hear from women in various roles and find out about their journeys and what they love about working in construction. Explore a range of apprenticeships available in construction and what the built environment has to offer you.

    Learn about the world of construction and all the different jobs available in the sector. They don’t all involve wearing a hard hat and going up some scaffolding! You will also learn how to enhance your communication skills and boost your confidence when it comes to bossing it in interviews.

    A one-off workshop to help you identify your strengths, and learn how to speak about them in an industry-relevant way. Learn to craft your language for the work place and to build your confidence in presenting yourself to prospective new employers and colleagues outside of school.

We know it's been an incredibly tough year for young people, with the constant changes, homeschooling and cancelled exams, so we're proud to offer these exciting sessions to students living in Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest.

Our aims for East Careers Week

  • Engage young people with creative, digital and STEAM careers unique to east London and the pathways they need to take to get into those careers
  • Provide young people with transferable employability skills needed for future jobs in any industry
  • Link young people, schools and parents to the exciting institutions, universities and sectors that will be based in and around the Park
  • Provide a space for wider discussion around careers, wellbeing and work culture
  • Equip parents/guardians with information and knowledge about future careers to able to support their child navigate next steps
  • Empower teachers/career leads to be able to embed a high-quality careers programme into their schools that links into Gatsby measures and Ofsted expectations
  • To use this Careers Week event to test a model of delivering careers education to schools that can be delivered on an annual basis with components delivered in school all year round.

  • The Ask the Expert website gives school students the opportunity to find answers to all sorts of questions that spark their curiosity and imagination. No question is a silly question! They have over 50 experts, from UCL (University College London), in subjects ranging from medicine, philosophy, architecture, computer science, museums, applying to university and much, much more!  
     
    Discover more about the things you are passionate about from world-leading researchers. It’s easy to use. First explore their list of experts, find out more about their subject areas and what they’re interested in. When you’re ready, submit a question and they'll work hard to get your answer up online within two weeks. You can also see what others have asked, and what their experts had to say. 
     
    UCL is encouraging everyone aged 11–18 to ask a question. So if that’s you, follow the link to the website. Or if you know a young person that might be interested, please share with them.

  • BBC Bitesize is coordinating with National Careers Week this year! New content will feature job inspirations, preparing for work, skills for work, navigating the workplace and enterprise skills.

  • V&A Innovate for Years 7, 8 and 9

    V&A Innovate is a National Schools Challenge and Teacher Resource Hub, it gives students in Year 7, 8 and 9 the opportunity to experience the power of design and technology in solving some of the world's biggest problems. The deadline for entries this year is the 26 March and due to COVID-19 regulations, they are now accepting individual entries. A fantastic range of content on these pages:
