Sustainability and the environment were at the heart of London’s successful bid for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.  The Park will respect these promises, creating a sustainable development in tune with the world’s changing climate and resource needs.

Using the best of the Games' infrastructure, innovation and inspiration, the Park is designed with sustainability at its heart.  This means both that it is being built in a sustainable way, and that it is being built to help its future visitors and residents to live sustainably.

Existing venues, new schools and developing communities are embedding sustainability into their design and day to day operations. Ensuring the sustainability of the infrastructure on the Park means residents, visitors and workers in the local community can live environmentally friendly lifestyles.

London Legacy Development Corporation’s sustainability work focuses on four main themes:

  • Smart Park - using data and innovative technologies to enhance the Park
  • Future Living - testing and showcasing new approaches to living on the Park and in its communities
  • Neighbourhoods - designing and developing the Park's communities to enable sustainable lifestyles
  • Garden District - creating a biodiverse and sustainable district of London
