Blue Monday

Blue Monday

Reasons to be cheerful...

Today is Blue Monday, so-called because it’s thought to be the most depressing day of the year. With days still dark and chilly, payday feeling some way off yet and the well-intentioned optimism of New Year’s resolutions feeling long behind us, the third Monday in January is when winter glumness is said to feel its worst – and that’s not even taking into consideration the fact that we are dealing with national lockdown restrictions this year too.

Instead of focusing on the reasons behind Blue Monday, we wanted to share a few reasons why today could bring a smile to your face instead.

Brighter days are coming
It’s easy to feel like long nights will last forever, but next time you find yourself turning on a lamp or overhead light at 3pm remember – it’s only going to get better. The shortest day was way back in December, meaning each day of January offers us a little more daylight.

Spring is on its way
Early daffodils have already been spotted springing up around the Park, and it’s hard to feel anything but cheerful when you see that burst of colour. We’ve still got some chilly days ahead, but spring is on its way and it will be punctuated by flowers, blossoms and green leaves all around us. Make sure you’re following our Instagram account to see the seasons changing on the Park if you’re not able to visit yourself during lockdown!

The Park is always open
We’re proud to be able to keep the Park open every single day, whether it’s for weekend strolls, early morning jogs or an evening walk down the well-lit boulevards (it’s free to visit too). Many studies have shown the benefits green spaces have on health and wellbeing, so if you are feeling struck by the January blues find time to take yourself out for 20 minutes of fresh air – we promise you’ll feel a difference! Just a reminder that you should only visit the Park for exercise and you can head to our latest Coronavirus updates for more information.
