About the Olympicopolis project:

Inspired by the vision for the legacy of the Great Exhibition in Kensington, ‘Olympicopolis’ at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park (formerly the site of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games) will cement east London’s reputation as an international trailblazer in design and creativity.   

The stunning waterside development will create a major new, world class education and cultural district for the UK - bringing together outstanding organisations to showcase exceptional art, dance, history, craft, science, technology and cutting edge design. The Victoria and Albert Museum, University College London (UCL), Sadler’s Wells and the University of the Arts London are founding members of the project, which is backed by the Mayor of London and the Chancellor of the Exchequer, with more high profile national and international partners coming on board.

Working in the Corporation’s Planning Policy and Decisions Team (PPDT)your role will be to ensure that planning permission is granted for the varied elements of the Olympicopolis project, to programme and in a proactive, efficient and effective way.

The role:

The Planning Development Executive will work within development management within PPDT both on the Olympicopolis project but also on a range of other planning applications in the Legacy Corporation’s area as needed. You will be required to:

  • Provide advice and manage a varied caseload of planning applications.
  • Offer pre-application planning guidance and advice.
  • Assess, evaluate and process planning applications, manage appeals and planning enforcement cases.
  • Negotiate scheme amendments and mediate between different planning interests to ensure good quality planning outcomes.
  • Preparing appropriate planning conditions as appropriate to work with senior staff on negotiations and s.106 legal agreements.
  • Contribute to the continuing improvement of development management processes and procedures.

The person:

Knowledge and Experience

To apply for this role you must be degree educated with an appropriate town planning qualification or equivalent with experience of working within the town planning profession.  Suitable candidates will have some experience of working in development management and assessing planning applications and preparing reports for senior colleagues. The successful candidate must have demonstrable experience of carrying out stakeholder and public consultation and engagement and experience of working with other public and/or professional organisations.

Skills and Abilities

The ability to use your own initiative and work with limited supervision is essential for this role. We are looking for someone with a flexible attitude who will be able to adapt and thrive in an environment where the workload is busy and varied.  The successful candidate will posses high level communication skills with the ability to present verbal and written information in a clear, succinct and well argued format.
