Closing date: 27.01.16
Do you have a disability and a passion for sport and health? We are looking for someone with the drive to influence the strategic direction of a nationally recognised inclusive project (Motivate East www.motivateeast.co.uk), already reaching large numbers of disabled people living in East London.
We are seeking to appoint a new Chair and two Board Members to make a significant contribution in maximising the opportunities in our new areas of work. These new areas of work consist of; delivery of targeted activity that includes people with mental health conditions, chronic health conditions, complex disabilities, long term pain and people with intellectual/memory conditions.
About Motivate East
Motivate East is a three year Sport England Inclusive Fund project about to approach the end of the third year, having already delivered over 40,000 opportunities. The project has been funded for two years of further delivery addressing our new areas of work. Motivate East has successfully brought disability sporting opportunities to new groups of inactive people by bridging the gap between Disabled Peoples Organisations (DPOs) and the world of sport. Through our unique partnership we have been able to reach the project targets as well welcoming two extra London boroughs to join the programme taking our reach to seven boroughs in East London.
About the board
Led by the Chair, the board is made up of seven London Borough Members (London Borough of Newham, Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Redbridge, Waltham Forest, Barking and Dagenham and Royal Borough of Greenwich), as well as the delivery teams and park venues. We are looking for a Chair for a two year term, effective from March 2016 to attend up to six board meetings per annum.
The Chair will be required to create a strong and supportive partnership with the boroughs and project partners, in particular, our new areas of work, guaranteeing that their skillsets are connected to the continued success of Motivate East, in accordance with the Sport England funding objectives. Alongside the Chair, the Board Members will be involved in shaping the strategic approach of the project, providing creative, informed and constructive input.
Specific experience in one or more of the following areas is required: sport and community development, health and social care, working with disabled people as well as individuals who have an understanding and experience of what it takes to drive sports participation for disabled people in East London. We strongly welcome applications from disabled people.
