Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park was packed this weekend with people enjoying all that the Park has to offer in the sunshine. The action kicked off on Friday night, with the Foo Fighters taking to the stage at the London Stadium- and they didn’t disappoint. Performing to a sell-out crowd, the band played hit after hit from their nine albums as the London Stadium continued its summer concert series. And then, much to the delight of their fans, they did it all over again on the Saturday night! Altogether, around 150,000 fans enjoyed the music over the two nights- some of the biggest crowds the London Stadium has seen.

Sunday marked the second-year anniversary of one of London’s hottest attractions, The Slide at the ArcelorMittal Orbit. Famously designed for the London 2012 Games, the sculpture combines breath-taking city views, inspiring contemporary art and adrenaline-inducing fun. Zoom up into the clouds and explore London’s skyline through stunning floor to ceiling windows before experiencing the city’s landmarks from the outside observation walkway suspended 80m above the ground. Discover sights including Wembley Stadium, St Paul’s Cathedral and the O2 Arena and get an exclusive bird’s eye view of the former London 2012 venues. 

The Slide opened two years ago and it will definitely make you sweat! Since the Slide opened two years ago, over 250,000 people have braved the twists, turns and drops of the world’s tallest and longest tunnel slide. You’ll travel through light and dark sections at speeds of up to 15mph as you encounter gentle curves, thrilling drops and a tight corkscrew named ‘the bettfeder’ – bedspring in German. Local residents are entitled to discounted tickets.

The Great Get Together, one of the Park’s most popular events, drew the weekend to a close, and saw over 10,000 people celebrate the diversity of east London with an array of entertainment and family-friendly activities. Chobham Academy band, based just down the road, opened the event, and the music continued throughout the day, ranging from African beats to performances on the Suffragette movement from local schoolchildren. Visitors were encouraged to get active in the sun, with Bollywood dance workshops and have-a-go sports run by England Hockey and Fight for Peace. One of the most popular spots was over by the London School of Samba and the Breakin’ Convention hip-hop team from Sadler’s Wells, who were teaching an array of moves. For those less inclined to break into a sweat, arts and crafts sessions were on offer, with graffiti, flag making and face painting proving very popular. 

The whole event was free, with many families enjoying a picnic or a storytelling workshop.
